For Tone’s 30th birthday this year, I wanted to do something special. He is still away at school in Ottawa, finishing his last semester of an Engineering program. I found out that his favorite hockey team would be playing that weekend and I bought him tickets!
That Friday I packed up Penelope, hired an amazing dog sitter for Bella (my sister’s dog who we were watching) and we were ready for the 6-hour drive. I was super nervous about driving with a baby that far, but honestly she was amazing! There are a few things I will always recommend for a road trip with a 1-year-old, and that is an iPad with downloaded Netflix movies (were currently going through a Wiggles phase) and I purchased Youtube Premium so that I could download other shows that weren’t on Netflix for a bit of variety. Second, we made sure we had LOTS of snacks, and if you can’t bring snacks and want to stop somewhere then I recommend Starbucks. They had healthy snacks that Penelope loved, like grapes, apples and hard-boiled eggs and I got to have my favorite Matcha Green Tea with almond milk! Lastly, I suggest you bring a few toys like the Boogie Board which she played with the entire trip.
It was years since I visited Ottawa, and even as a kid I loved visiting museums and art galleries. I love them even more now that I’m a mom and I wanted to take her everywhere I possibly could, and teach her about everything. That’s exactly how we ended up at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, which I HIGHLY recommend visiting especially with children! It was so much fun and very interactive.
I’ve always enjoyed flying and learning about airplanes, especially since my dad was an Aircraft Engineer. We inherited his love of visiting places like these, and Penelope clearly did too.
Anyway, I thought I would dedicate a blog post to recap our family trip to Ottawa and to wish my love a happy 30th birthday! I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.1
