Its hard to believe I’ll be turning 29 this year, and in true Stephanie form I’ve begun celebrating by a girls weekend in the city. This years festivities started at the beginning of October when I booked us a weekend at Toronto’s One King West Hotel, and even got us tickets to the Blog It Conference which was hosted at Pray Tell.
We moved from Toronto over two and a half years ago now, but it feels like yesterday that we were living in that gorgeous condo over looking the city. I can’t say I really miss it, because my heart does belong in the country but I do love any excuse for a weekend getaway to the city.
It was definitely surprising when we got upgraded to a stunning suite overlooking the city without asking. The valet and service were great but there was one time when I had to go find the valet to park the car but honestly not a big deal.
Hotel rooms are a big deal to me I like to have a clean, bright room with character. I’ve stayed in many hotels in the years I’ve travelled and I just know what I like, especially when travelling away from home I enjoy being comfortable.
My sister always gets room service, every single time we travel together and thats totally fine its just something she enjoys. So the next morning when I woke up she had done the research and already ordered a massive amount of food for breakfast, to my surprise it was a “breakfast for one” which we split and I just wanted to note that the food was actually really good.
What initially caught my attention was the history and characteristics of this hotel. It was originally Michie & Co Grocery store that was later bought by a bank and finally this hotel which has done a great job holding true to the historic splendour of the building.
What we ate
In the mornings I’d wake up and go to Cafe Plenty for a coffee and croissant. I’ve been there a time or two in the past and it’s consistently good coffee, with very European looking decor.
We also made a run to Booster Juice for the Meaner Mocha. It is actually a delicious blend of Arabica cold brew, chocolate almond milk and vanilla frozen yogurt.
For dinner we decided to go to my favourite place, which is Restoration Hardware’s Court side Cafe in Yorkdale. I always get the Kale Caesar to start and either the Simple Prep of Fish or the Slow-Roasted Chicken.
