Kind of spur of the moment last Sunday, we loaded up the car and went to the zoo. Turns out the beginning of June feels more like a fall day than a summer one, and I’m not even mad about it. I changed about 15 times before I left the house, debated putting shorts on P and I (thank god I didn’t because that wind was a little chilly), packed a lunch and headed out the door.
This was P’s second time at a zoo since she was born, we visited the Palm Beach zoo in December but she was still too small to care. Now at 15 months she is more aware and understands that there are animals there, but honestly it was more for us as a family. Tony knew I’ve been wanting to go for years now, and just never had a reason to go (turns out a toddler is the perfect excuse).
My favourite part was feeding the giraffes.
The true magic was watching our daughter experience new things, it’s their curiosity of the world around them I love. I watched as Penelope opened her hand slowly revealing the feed to the mama giraffe, and without hesitating she reached up to let her eat! I was so proud of her in that moment. I always want her to be kind and compassionate towards animals, to love them and respect them.
oh and there were GOATS!!
Who doesn’t love Goats!?
This picture right here, gave me flashbacks to my childhood. Standing in the exact same spot as P, feeding the goats (assuming these are grand baby goats of the goats I was feeding) but I started to think that it was at this very zoo I fell in love with animals. I remember walking through this tiny park thinking it was a huge zoo with giant animals that I had never seen before, and how one day I would becoming a zoo keeper. I can’t help but hope that we did this little zoo justice, and that maybe just maybe P will do what I didn’t and follow her childhood dreams.
“I got the best picture!” said Tone as we were leaving.
Well done, dad.0
