For Tone’s 30th birthday this year I wanted to do something big for him. He is still away at school in Ottawa, finishing his final semester of his Engineering program and after finding out his favourite sports team would be playing there that weekend I knew I had to get him tickets.
Friday afternoon I packed up Penelope, hired an amazing dog sitter to visit Bella and we were ready for the 6 hour drive. I was super nervous about driving with a baby that far, but honestly she was amazing! There are a few things I will always recommend for a road trip with a 1 year old, and that is an iPad with downloaded Netflix movies (were currently going through a Wiggles phase) and I purchased Youtube Premium so that I could download other shows that weren’t on Netflix for a bit of variety. Second, we made sure we had LOTS of snacks, and if you can’t bring snacks and want to stop somewhere than I recommend Starbucks. They had healthy snacks that Penelope loved, like grapes, apples and hard boiled eggs.. plus I got to have my favourite Matcha Green Tea with almond milk! Lastly, I found out of all the toys and stuff we brought the thing that kept her the most busy was the Boogie Board! She used it the whole car ride, and everywhere we went.
It was years since I visited Ottawa, and even as a kid I loved visiting museums and art galleries. Now as a mom, I love them even more and want to drag my child around to everything I possibly can, and teach her everything I possibly can. So that is how we ended up at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, which I HIGHLY recommend visiting especially with children! It was so much fun and very interactive.
We all love Airplanes and flying in our family, especially my dad who was an Aircraft Engineer. We inherited his love of visiting places like these, and Penelope clearly did too.
Happy 30th Love! After all these years, you still make me laugh until my tummy hurts.
