I’ve wanted a black front door since we bought our home, and I’ve been saving them all on Pinterest waiting for the right moment. I’m drawn to black doors for the simplicity, the depth, and the unexpected color especially when it’s paired with white windows.
Our front door is currently white, to match the white railings, white windows, and white shutters. I struggled with this design because I wasn’t sure how a black front door would look with all the white. Would it compliment each other? would it make the door pop? how about when you have grey siding?

So I dove back into my Pinterest boards to find if anyone else has a similar issue with their front door and what they decided to do with it. Here a few of my favourite designers with their painted black front doors.
How to make a black front door look good according to these three designers
I’m starting with Sarah Jane Interiors, who paired her front door with two black porch lights. It breaks up the white, while complimenting each other, and did I mention I love the way the door looks decorated for the Holidays!
Next is this beautiful front door from the design bloggers over at Laine & Layne. I actually found their blog last year and they’re the reason I fell in love with black doors in the first place. This was the closest photo I could find that had similar colored siding and a white window like our home. I also loved that they used Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black for their door makeover because it’s the paint color I went with as well.

Finally, I had to share Chloe’s from Boxwood Avenue. Her ranch home is exactly what I would love ours to look like one day. I have a thing for natural wood and white windows with black from her front door. It’s rustic but still traditional and that’s my favorite mix of designs.

Now that we’ve seen and compared white windows and grey siding to black front doors, I’m planning on getting this project started before the weather turns cold again. Giving it the paint time to set and I will of course be showing every step of the way.
